MAGNOLIA BEAUTIFICATION
Magnolia Beautification is a group of volunteers who work for the betterment of Magnolia, with an emphasis on litter prevention, recycling, organizing the Great American Cleanup, planting and maintaining flowers, shrubs and trees, and special projects on city property in Magnolia. Approximately twelve members meet monthly on the Last Tuesday of the month at 10:00 am at Magnolia City Hall. Meetings are open to all and volunteers are welcome. Beautification operates off memorials, grants and donations. Memorials or honorariums can be made to Magnolia Beautification, 180 South Cherry Street, Magnolia, MS 39652.Magnolia Beautification is also a member of Keep Pike County Beautiful, an affiliate of Keep Mississippi Beautiful. Those meetings are on the third Monday of the month in downtown McComb at the Tourism and Community Development Building, next to McComb City Hall at 12:00. Beautification is responsible for the planting of the iron planters downtown, the entire city in ground plantings, mulching, the antique wagon display on the depot grounds, the banners, murals, as well as, providing Scarecrow displays and helping the city with Christmas decorations and helping with litter free city events. In 2008, Beautification was responsible for 24 projects with 2,123 hours of volunteer time. We try to partner with different organizations, as well as, South Pike Schools. Also, in 2008, Magnolia Beautification was the recipient of the 7th Keep Mississippi Beautiful State Award. Upcoming events include: Great American Cleanup - Saturday, April 18, 2009, 8:00am - 12:00pm – Sign in and trash bags can be picked up at Magnolia Community Center. Magnolia’s Evening in Lights - Friday, April 3, 6:00pm - 9:00 pm, Magnolia’s North Railroad Park. The evening will include a candlelit night of music and food under the massive oaks and lighted azaleas featuring Pat Cornacchione’s Swing Band. A catered dinner by Smithie Buie will be available. Tickets are $12 per person and can be purchased at Magnolia Banks.
